Good Morning

Today's Scripture

Here I am! I stand at the door and knock.  If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him, and he with me.

Revelation 3:20

Today's prayer requests:         Melanie Tubbs, friend of Michelle Ray

Melanie is a friend of Michelle's who has a serious problem with her foot, and needs to have it amputated, but they are having a terrible time getting her epidural to "take" so she can have the surgery.  I haven't heard whether she has had the surgery yet or not, but either way we need to pray for her strength -physically, emotionally, and spiritually both for her and her family.

Good Morning

Today's Scripture

Love never fails.

But when there are prophesies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away.  For we know in part and we prophesy in part, but when perfection comes, the imperfect disappears.  When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child.  When I became a man, I put childish things behind me.  Now we see but a poor reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face.  Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.

And now these three remain: faith, hope and love.  But the greatest of these in love.

 1 Corinthians 13:8-13

Today's prayer requests:         Megan's friend Kayla.

Kayla is expecting, but also has a growth on her throat that is concerning her doctors and will likely need to be removed.  However, Kayla is in her first trimester, so the any treatment options are going to be limited and difficult.

Good Morning

Today's Scripture

Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?

Jesus replied: Love the Lord your God will all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.  This is the first and greatest commandment.  And the second is like it:  Love your neighbor as yourself.  All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.

Matthew 22:36-39

Today's prayer requests:         Brother-in-law of Ruth Bean, one of my co-workers

52 year old brother-in-law of Ruth Bean, one of my co-workers found out he had stage 3 esophageal cancer on Monday, and they are having to begin treatment right away.  This came as a complete shock to the family, and we need to pray for that family during this time and his treatment.

Good Morning

Today's Scripture

Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize?  Run is such a way as to get the prize.  Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training.  They do it to get a crown that will not last; but we do it to get a crown that will last forever.

 1 Corinthians 9:24-25

Today's prayer requests:        Don Thaxton, Kelley's husband

Need to continue to remember Kelley's husband Don, who is recovering his auto accident and the resulting surgery.

Good Morning

Hope everyone had a good Sunday afternoon.  As we discussed in class, we are going to hold off starting our study until Sept. 3, due to people being out of town and because of the Sunday School promotion sunday event on August 27.  In the mean time, several things we can be doing to prepare:

-- getting copies of our book -- Cure for the Common Life by Max Lucado.

-- I'll be updating the blog over the next week with several links to other information by Max Lucado about the book -- an audio sermon he had done about the topics in the book, a webinar on the book, etc.

Today's Scripture

But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect, 16keeping a clear conscience, so that those who speak maliciously against your good behavior in Christ may be ashamed of their slander.

1 Peter 3:15-16  (a verse Bobby referenced in his sermon)

Today's prayer requests:       For all of the kids starting school.

We are at the beginning of the school year, and we need to remember all of the kids and teachers who are beginning school -- it is such an important time in the lives of these kids, and we just need to remember them in our prayers as they start this year of school.
